Common Dental Emergencies
You may be wondering if your situation warrants emergency care. Usually, any dental problem that is painful, bleeding, or involves a trauma should be attended to as quickly as possible. Other emergencies include:
- A toothache that doesn’t go away- You may be experiencing an enlarged cavity, damaged tooth or inner tooth infection. Tooth pain should not be ignored, and early intervention can prevent a more serious condition and more extensive treatment.
- Abscess –When the tissue surrounding a tooth becomes infected, it could develop an abscess, which is a pocket filled with pus. Symptoms include pain, fever, redness, and swelling. Abscesses need prompt care before the infection spreads to other areas.
- Damaged Teeth - Cracked, chipped, or dislodged teeth need immediate attention, especially if the damage creates tooth or gum discomfort. These situations make your teeth more vulnerable to infection and can become quite painful if left untreated.
- Knocked out tooth – If you can find the tooth, place it in milk, sterile saline, or try to fit it back into the socket until you can see the dentist. Call our office immediately so we can try to save your tooth.
